Artist Bio

Ana Castillo, a native of Chicago, most recently collaborated with the Goodman on the 2003 Latino Theater Festival. She includes among her published fiction work the children’s book My Daughter, My Son, The Eagle, The Dove (2000); Peel My Love Like an Onion (1999); Loverboys, a collection of short stories (1996); So Far From God (1993); and The Mixquiahuala Letters (1986). She received an American Rook Award from the Before Columbus Foundation for her first novel, The Mixquiahuala Letters. Her other awards include a Carl Sandburg Award, a Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award and fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts in fiction and poetry. She was also awarded a 1998 Sor Juana Achievement Award by the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum in Chicago. Dr. Castillo holds the Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz Chair at DePaul University where she currently teaches in the English Department and Latin American Studies Program here in Chicago. Her most recent collection of poems is I Ask the Impossible (2002, Anchor Books, NY). She has also recently completed another novel.
