The Goodman’s Pages Residency program invites elementary and middle school students to explore creativity, storytelling, and community through theater. Guided by professional teaching artists, students develop original work and share their stories in a final showcase for family, friends, and school staff.

The Goodman’s Pages Residency program brings theater to life as a tool for self-expression, community connection, and creative exploration. Designed for elementary and middle school classrooms, Pages uses the Goodman’s annual production of A Christmas Carol as a jumping-off point to explore how theater can hold a mirror up to the world—examining injustice, inspiring empathy, and imagining a better future.

Through hands-on exercises in improvisation, storytelling, and personal reflection, students develop original scenes inspired by a thought-provoking essential question. These activities incorporate contextual research about the communities students live in, integrate social-emotional learning standards, and draw on restorative justice practices to foster reflection, empathy, and collaborative problem-solving. Students engage with big ideas, explore their identities, and understand their role within their communities.

Led by professional Goodman Teaching Artists, students collaborate to bring their research, their reflections and their reimaginings to life, culminating in a final showcase where family, friends, and school staff can celebrate their creativity, growth, and shared experiences.
