Edward Albee Festival
A six-week festival of plays and special events celebrating the work of Edward Albee
Edward Albee—one of America’s greatest living playwrights. Winner of three Pulitzer Prizes and two Tony Awards, Albee has challenged and beguiled us for nearly 50 years. To commemorate Mr. Albee’s 75th birthday, the Goodman will present a six-week celebration of his life and work.
The Albee Festival will include the Chicago premieres of The Goat or, Who is Sylvia? and The Play about the Baby, three programs of Mr. Albee’s one-act plays, and special events featuring noted Albee interpreters and Mr. Albee himself.

The Play About the Baby
By Edward Albee
Directed by Pam MacKinnonSeptember 20 – November 2, 2003
Boy and Girl are a blissful young couple, living in their own private Eden. They’ve got a beautiful new baby. Or do they? The arrival of Man and Woman, with their worldly ways and verbal sparring, blurs the line between reality and fiction, and brings Boy and Girl to the edge of doubt about everything they once believed.

The Goat or, Who is Sylvia?
By Edward Albee
Directed by Robert FallsNovember 10 – December 2, 2003
It’s Martin’s 50th birthday, and he’s got a secret. He’s so swept away in its “engulfing disruption” that everything he thought was true and good in his life has become meaningless. Martin has lost his grip on reality, because he’s having an affair.
