GoodBYE marianne by Irene Kirstein Watts

This powerful commemoration presented in partnership with the Illinois Holocaust Museum, features a full-length dramatic reading of Goodbye Marianne. Directed by Raquel Torre (24/25 Maggio Directing Fellow), Goodbye Marianne is based on playwright Irene Kirstein Watts’ experience as a child in Nazi Germany immediately after the November Pogroms. Marianne finds one day that she is no longer permitted to attend school. Ultimately, Marianne’s parents must make an impossible choice to keep her safe. A story of hope and resilience in the face of a terrible unknown. The reading is 60 minutes with a post-show discussion to follow. Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is a partner with the Jewish United Fund in serving our community.
Goodbye Marianne is appropriate for all ages and families are encouraged to attend.
Admission for both readings is free. Reservations are required.

Goodman Theatre and the Illinois Holocaust Museum are proud to participate in the NJTF Remembrance Readings program honoring the victims, survivors and lessons of the Holocaust. May the unique power of theater in performance and education overcome the forces of bigotry, Holocaust denial, and serve as an artistic moral compass for future generations.
