ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Goodman’s Youth Arts Council (GYAC) is a dynamic leadership program for Chicago Public Schools students in grades 9–12 where young people develop the tools to harness the power of theater to drive real-world impact, spark dialogue and imagine a more just future. As ambassadors for the Goodman, GYAC members use theater as a platform to connect communities, amplify underrepresented voices and create meaningful change. Through collaboration, mentorship and hands-on experience, members design and produce experiences that engage their peers, inspire civic dialogue and model how the arts can shape a stronger, more connected world.
What GYAC Members Do:
-
Serve as a key voice in shaping the future direction and structure of the Council.
-
Identify issues impacting young people in Chicago and use theatre to explore and propose solutions.
-
Collaborate with peers to design and produce events and experiences by teens, for teens.
-
Learn directly from Goodman artists and staff through mentorship and hands-on leadership opportunities.
-
Act as ambassadors for the Goodman, demonstrating how the arts can have real-world impact.
