Artist Bio
Alaric “Rokko” Jans
(Bio as of March 2006)
Alaric “Rokko” Jans most recently collaborated with the Goodman on The Revenge of the Space Pandas, or Binky Rudich and the Two-Speed Clock during the 2005/2006 Season. Mr. Jans is Chicago’s most noted composer for theater and film. He currently holds the Bob Tilles chair, an honor established at Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST), where he is resident composer. Their recent production of Measure For Measure was his 27th with the company. The Royal Shakespeare Company has invited CST to perform Henry IV Parts One and Two in England this summer, which will feature Jans’ music. A 15-time Jeff nominee for his work in Chicago theater, he is a five-time recipient of the award, most recently for his score for The Tempest. He received an After Dark Award last season for his score for The Merry Wives of Windsor. Other theater credits include co-authoring music and lyrics for Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? and creating songs for the children’s show The Adventures of Captain Marbles and His Acting Squad. Film credits include scores for films directed by David Mamet including House of Games, Things Change, Homicide and The Winslow Boy. He is currently working on a musical called Rockne as principal composer/lyricist.
