Please mark your calendars and join us for this much needed, always important, and truly timely discussion of the current realities that surround minority artists, and the arts in Chicago. Our Chicago Black Arts Town Hall, and celebration of Chicago Arts, begins with our Host the amazingly appropriate Amina Dickerson. Her leadership experience includes a 35-year career in the non-profit, corporate and philanthropy sectors. As Senior Director at Kraft Foods she headed multi-national philanthropic programs in hunger relief, the arts, domestic violence and education. Among other executive posts she served with the National Museum of African Art at Smithsonian Institution, Chicago Historical Society and the DuSable Museum of African American History.
Experience and enjoy this one night only Town Hall, by learning about, and celebrating, all of the amazing artistic disciplines that make known across the country. Extremely frank, open and realistic questions will be presented to Chicago professionals, from all disciplines including theatre, dance, music, film, visual and literary arts. Our Professional Chicago Panel includes Artists, Managers, and Organizational Leaders. They include Award Winning Female Vocalist Lucie Smith; Musician Shawn Wallace; Theatre Director Ron OJ Parson; Two-time Emmy- Nominated and Four-time Telly Winner, Radio Host, and Creator of Founder of Black Fim Magazine Creative Cypher Troy Pryor; Visual Artists and Gallery Owners Andre and Francis Guichard, and Executive Director of Deeply Rooted Dance Company Makeda Crayton.
As we watch national funding for the arts (and especially the minority arts) being reduced, demeaned, ignored, and almost erased, we not only must have Town Halls and Panel Discussions, but we must make sure that they are repeated.
A light reception will follow the Panel Discussion.
