Honey, vanilla, walnut, and dried fruit yield to the profound rancio that only decades in wood can create. Signed by the maître de chai. 750ml · 43% ABV.

2) Rittenhouse Very Rare 23 Year Old Single Barrel Straight Rye

Essentials

  • Spirit: Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky
  • Distilled: October 1984 · Bottled: 2007

A true American whiskey grail. Distilled in October 1984 at Heaven Hill and drawn from a single barrel in a series of just 25, this 23-year-old Rittenhouse is part of the legendary Very Rare trilogy that nearly never existed — born from a run of barrels misplaced in the rickhouse and aged beyond all intention. Bottled at 100 proof and non-chill filtered. Winner of Double Gold and Best Rye Whisky at the 2007 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Caramel, clove, pipe tobacco, and leather over deep, resinous oak. 750ml · 100 proof.

3) Jim Beam Distiller’s Masterpiece 18 Year – Cognac Cask Finish (1999, 1st Edition)

Essentials

  • Spirit: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, finished in Cognac casks
  • Age: 18 years · Released: 1999
  • Finishing casks: A. de Fussigny Cognac
  • Creators: Booker Noe (Jim Beam) × Alain Royer (Fussigny)

  • Signatures: Booker Noe and Alain Royer on the label
  • Production: Approximately 5,000 bottles, individually numbered
  • Volume & proof: 750ml · 99 proof (49.5% ABV)

A foundational piece of American whiskey history. Released in 1999, Distiller’s Masterpiece was among the first major-brand bourbons to carry a cask finish and one of the earliest super-premium expressions of the modern era — an 18-year Jim Beam bourbon finished in A. de Fussigny Cognac casks, conceived by the late Booker Noe and French Cognac master Alain Royer, whose signatures grace the bottle. Presented in a numbered, oak-leaf-etched French crystal decanter. Butterscotch, cherry, fig, vanilla, and dark baking spice. Approximately 5,000 bottles produced. 750ml · 99 proof.

4) Evan Williams 23 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Essentials

  • Spirit: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Age: 23 years
  • Producer: Heaven Hill Distillery, Bardstown, KY
  • Market: Primarily Japanese export (signature blue label/wax)
  • Volume & proof: 750ml · 107 proof (53.5% ABV)

A remarkably powerful 23-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Heaven Hill — and an anomaly in the category. Where Pappy Van Winkle 23 arrives at 95.6 proof and Elijah Craig 23 at 90, this Evan Williams pours at a full 107 proof, a rarity for bourbon of this age and a testament to the quality of its cask. Created in the late 1980s primarily for the Japanese market, where it became a legend among bourbon hunters. Dark copper in the glass; dark cherry, honey, toffee, corn sweetness, and deep oak. 750ml · 107 proof.

5) High West Very Rare 21 Year Old Rocky Mountain Rye

Essentials

  • Spirit: Whiskey distilled from rye mash (53% rye)
  • Age: 21 years in reused cooperage
  • Bottler: High West Distillery, Park City, Utah (DSP-UT-15001)
  • Production: 75 barrels total across the entire series
  • Format: Batch 9, hand-numbered bottle
  • Volume & proof: 750ml · 92 proof (46% ABV)

One of the rarest American ryes in circulation. Distilled from a 53% rye mash and aged 21 years in reused cooperage — a technique that yields a softer, more elegant spirit than conventional rye — this High West release came from a total production of just 75 barrels, now long depleted. Hand-numbered and bottled at 92 proof in Park City, Utah. Toffee, fig, and caramel give way to nutmeg, cinnamon, and green oak, finishing long and smooth. A vanishing artifact of American whiskey’s mid-2010s renaissance. 750ml · 46% ABV.

6) Very Olde St. Nick 25 Year Old Ancient Rare Bourbon Whiskey

Essentials

  • Spirit: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Age: 25 years
  • Brand: Very Olde St. Nick (VOSN) — “Ancient Ancient Rare Whiskey”
  • Presentation: Specially Handmade & Bottled in Kentucky · hand-drawn family-recipe label
  • Brand owner: Marci Palatella (Allied Lomar / InterBev)
  • Historical bottlers: Julian Van Winkle III (early releases); Kentucky Bourbon Distillers / Willett (later releases)
  • Source stock: Includes old Stitzel-Weller bourbon purchased from Diageo
  • Volume: 750ml

A cult collector’s bourbon with direct lineage to the legendary Stitzel-Weller rickhouses. Created in 1986 by Marci Palatella to satisfy the Japanese market’s appetite for ultra-aged American whiskey, Very Olde St. Nick was first bottled by Julian Van Winkle III and later by Even Kulsveen at Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. This 25-year expression draws on the same old bourbon stocks that underlie Pappy Van Winkle — acquired by Palatella’s family directly from Diageo. Caramel, dark cherry, tobacco, oak, and vanilla, with extraordinary depth and length. 750ml.
