Did you know that Pearl Cleage’s novel, What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day, was an Oprah Book Club selection and was on the New York Times bestseller list? Later, on a commission from Oprah Winfrey, Pearl Cleage co-wrote the 2007 NAACP Image Award nominated poem, We Speak Your Name with her husband, writer Zaron Burnett, Jr.

Poetry and Music: Mad at Miles

Presented by Black Ensemble Theater

On Monday, October 2 audiences enjoyed the were treated to a lobby performance by Chicago West Community Music Center before the main event—a special reading/performance of Mad at Miles by Black Ensemble Theater Founder and Artistic Director Jackie Taylor. The evening also featured performances by poet Barbara L. McBee, writer, actress Toccara Castleman, musician, artist, Jamaal Crowder, writer, director, actor McKenzie Chinn


Writing Workshop: Letters, Potions, and Promises

Presented by Goodman Theatre and Remy Bumppo Theatre Company
Led by Dr. Martine Kei Green-Rogers, Lachrisa Grandberry, and Gabrielle Randle-Bent

On Tuesday October 3, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company in collaboration with Goodman Theatre provided an affinity space for early-career and emerging femme BIPOC writers.
