Artist Bio
Victor En Yu Tan
(Bio as of May 2008)
Victor En Yu Tan most recently collaborated with the Goodman on The Ballad of Emmett Till during the 2007/2008 Season. His other design credits include Stick Fly for McCarter Theatre Center; Julius Caesar, A Servant of Two Masters and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Colorado Shakespeare Festival; Joy Luck Club and Tea for Pan Asian Repertory; Under Midwestern Stars (premiere) and Bad Dates for Kansas City Repertory Theatre; and Topdog/Underdog, Someone’s Somebody (premiere) and A Peculiar and Sudden Nearness of the Moon (premiere) for Sacramento Theatre Company. He has designed more than 35 plays for the Pan Asian Repertory including Cambodia Agonistes, Legacy Codes (New York City premiere), Forbidden City Blues (premiere) and Rashomon. He has also designed more than 25 plays for the New York Shakespeare Festival including the premiere of for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf for director Oz Scott. Mr. Tan’s regional credits include Taste Test (premiere) for Virginia Stage Company; Gee’s Bend and Room Service for the Cleveland Play House; Young Lady from Rwanda (premiere), Liliom and Machinal for the Kansas City Repertory Theatre; Cosi Fan Tutte, Turandot and Madama Butterfly for Sacramento Opera; Convenience, Tea, Art and Shedding the Tiger (premiere) for Sacramento Theatre Company; A Night in Tunisia for George Street Playhouse; Ikebana (premiere) for Pasadena Playhouse; and many other regional theaters. He is the associate professor of lighting design for the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
