Artist Bio
Teatro Luna
(Bio as of July 2010)
Teatro Luna most recently collaborated with the Goodman on the 2010 Latino Theater Festival. Teatro Luna is Chicago’s all-Latina Theatre Company, and was founded in June 2000 by Coya Paz and Tanya Saracho, with an original ensemble of 10 Latina women. Teatro Luna was created because the stories and experiences of Latina/Hispana women were undervalued and underrepresented on Chicago stages and beyond. Teatro Luna approaches its work from the perspective that our stories matter; for 10 years it has been producing vibrant new and original work in addition to providing opportunities for Latinas to excel in the arts by offering a variety of community programs. One example is The Incubation Series, a programming division which currently nurtures and trains more than 40 Latina women (free of cost) in playwriting, directing, dramaturgy, acting and producing through three distinct theater lab programs.
