Artist Bio
Sheila Callaghan

Sheila Callaghan’s new play Elevada, a commission by Yale Rep, was a Susan Smith Blackburn finalist, and will premiere in 2015. Her play Everything You Touch had its world premiere at the Theatre at Boston Court in April 2014, and will receive a new production off-Broadway by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and True Love Productions in early 2015. Her other plays include That Pretty Pretty; Or, The Rape Play, Roadkill Confidential, Dead City and Lascivious Something. Her work has been produced and developed with Goodman Theatre, the Public Theater, Soho Rep, Playwrights Horizons, South Coast Repertory, Clubbed Thumb (where she was an affiliated artist), The LARK, Actors Theatre of Louisville, New Georges, True Love Productions, Woolly Mammoth and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, as well as internationally in New Zealand, Norway, Germany, Portugal and the Czech Republic. She is currently working on a new play commission for Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles. Ms. Callaghan is the recipient of the Princess Grace Award for emerging artists, a Jerome Fellowship from the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis, a MacDowell Residency, a Cherry Lane Mentorship Fellowship, the Susan Smith Blackburn Award and the Whiting Award. She is a former member of the OBIE-winning playwright organization 13P and a past resident of New Dramatists. She is also currently a co-producer and writer for Showtime’s critically-acclaimed series Shameless. Her original spec pilot, Over/Under, was produced by FTVS and USA in 2011, and she was previously a staff writer on United States of Tara. She also recently adapted the iconic television series I Dream of Jeannie for Escape Artists and Sony. Ms. Callaghan was profiled by Marie Claire as one of “18 Successful Women Who Are Changing the World” and was also named one of Variety magazine’s “10 Screenwriters to Watch” in 2010.
