Robert O’Hara most recently collaborated with the Goodman on In The Continuum during the 2006/2007 Season. He received a 2006 Obie Award for his direction of the world premiere production of In The Continuum. That production was named to the Top Ten Lists for 2005 in the New York Times, Village Voice, Newsday and New York Daily News. Mr. O’Hara has directed at New York Shakespeare Festival, Primary Stages, Yale Repertory, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Kirk Douglas Theatre, American Conservatory Theater, Magic Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Market Theatre in Johannesburg, Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, The Culture Project, The Flea, Athenaeum Theatre and Perry Street Theatre. He has directed everything from Shakespeare and Howard Barker to Kia Corthron and Chay Yew. He has also developed work at Playwrights Horizons, New York Theatre Workshop, Seattle Repertory and Theater Emory. He wrote and directed the world premiere of Insurrection: Holding History at the Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival, which received the Oppenheimer Award for Best New American Play and subsequently was published by both Theatre Communications Group and Dramatists Play Service. He received his M.F.A. in directing from Columbia University, after which he assistant directed major productions helmed by George C. Wolfe, Daniel Sullivan, Adrian Hall and Tazewell Thompson. His recent projects include Des McAnuff’s revival of The Wiz at LaJolla Playhouse and his new adaptation of the Oresteia, titled Good Breeding, which premiered under his direction at University of California, San Diego.
