Lucy Tan

Lucy Tan (they/them) is an Australian-born juggler, porter, and acrobat. Born on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country in Naarm/Melbourne, circus has been a constant throughline in Lucy’s life, a passion they inherited from their mother. Beginning at their mum’s flying trapeze classes as a toddler, the love for circus grew through years of youth circus, followed by high school and tertiary-level circus schools across four separate continents, often with parents or other family members in tow. As a child and teen Lucy struggled with the fact that their parents often wanted to participate in the circus community to the same degree as they did. Now as an adult, Lucy recognizes that open-minded and authentic parental support as the rich and beautiful resource that it is. For many people it is about the chance to run away with the circus. For Lucy, it has always been more about running to keep up.
