Artist Bio
Kenny Leon
(Bio as of January 2007)
Kenny Leon most recently collaborated with the Goodman on Radio Golf during the 2006/2007 Season. Other Goodman credits include directing Miss Evers’ Boys and appearing in Gem of the Ocean. He has directed around the country?at major institutions including the Mark Taper Forum,?Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Huntington Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater and The Public Theater in New York. After the Broadway production of Radio Golf Mr. Leon will direct the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Currently, he is cofounder and artistic director of True Colors Theatre Company; prior to that, he was artistic director of Alliance Theatre for more than a decade. Mr. Leon has directed nine of the 10 plays in August Wilson’s cycle, including the 2004 Broadway production of Gem of the Ocean (five Tony nominations). He also directed the Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun featuring Sean Combs and Phylicia Rashad (two Tony Awards) and the world premiere of Toni Morrison’s opera Margaret Garner, and will soon direct the film A Raisin in the Sun for Sony and ABC. One of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 2004, he received Martell Cognac’s “Rise Above Award” and is currently the face of Martell. Mr. Leon is a graduate and honorary Ph.D. of Clark Atlanta University and was chosen as one of the “Top 20 Southerners to Watch” by London’s Financial Times.
