Artist Bio
Julie Ganey
(Bio as of May 2025)
Julie Ganey is a Chicago-based artist and educator, whose work encompasses writing, storytelling, theatre and improvisation. Her work reflects a deep belief in the power of stories and collaborative artmaking to build community and break down barriers between individuals and groups. As a professional actor, she has appeared on many Chicago stages, including Victory Gardens, Northlight, Chicago Dramatists, Shattered Globe, and Drury Lane Theatre. Julie has written and performed four original solo plays, the latest of which, Michiganderish, was created as part of her 2024 Creative Fellowship at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. Julie’s book, co-written with Arlene Malinowski, SOLO: The Everything Guide to Writing, Performing and Producing Your One-Person Show, is being published by Northwestern University Press this year. Julie is an active member of the Chicago live lit storytelling scene and a company member at 2nd Story. She’s a staunch advocate of arts education and regularly creates performance pieces with collaborators ages 3 to 93 with organizations of all sizes. Julie is also a long-time teaching artist for the Goodman’s GeNarrations program and an adjunct professor at The Theatre School at DePaul University. (AEA/SAG-AFTRA)
