Julie Ganey

Julie Ganey is a Chicago-based artist and educator whose work encompasses solo performance, theatre, and improvisation. She has appeared on Chicago stages for 25 years, including at Victory Gardens, Northlight, Chicago Dramatists, Shattered Globe, and Drury Lane Theatre. Julie has written and performed four original solo plays, which have been produced in Chicago and throughout the Midwest. Her latest solo, Michiganderish, was created and commissioned as part of her 2024 Creative Fellowship at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. She is an active member of Chicago’s live lit storytelling scene and a company member at 2nd Story. As part of the award-winning comedy ensemble Wavelength, Julie spent years performing all over the U.S. and leading workshops for teachers and executives on communication skills, conflict resolution, and improvisation. Julie is a devoted advocate of arts education and regularly creates performance pieces with collaborators aged 3 to 93 with organizations of all sizes. She has designed original programming for clients such as Northwestern Law School, the Illinois Holocaust Museum, and American Girl Place. Julie received her BFA from The Theatre School at DePaul University, where she is now an adjunct professor. Julie is a long-time teaching artist for the Goodman Theatre’s GeNarrations program and is the co-author of SOLO: The Everything Guide to Writing, Performing, and Producing Your One-Person Show, published by Northwestern University Press.
