Artist Bio
John Ortiz
(Bio as of January 2003)
John Ortiz most recently appeared at the Goodman in The Rose Tattoo during the 2002/2003 Season. Other Goodman credits include The Merchant of Venice, directed by Peter Sellars. Theater credits include Jesus Hopped the A Train in New York and London (Drama Desk nomination, Drama League Award); Where’s My Money at Labyrinth, written and directed by John Patrick Shanley; five Jose Rivera premieres including References To Salvador Dali Make Me Hot at Public Theatre (Obie Award), Cloud Tectonics at Playwrights Horizon, Sueño at MCC and most recently, Adoration of the Old Woman at La Jolla; The Skin of Our Teeth and De Donde at the Public Theatre; The Persians, directed by Peter Sellars, at the Mark Taper Forum; the national tour of A Few Good Men; House Arrest at Arena Stage; and Pentecost at Yale Rep. Film credits include Narc, Before Night Falls, Amistad, Carlito’s Way, Ransom, 3 AM, Riot, Sgt. Bilko and The Opportunist. Television credits include The Job. John is the co-founder and co-artistic director with Philip Seymour Hoffman of Labyrinth Theater Company in New York City.
