Artist Bio
John Duykers
(Bio as of June 2002)
John Duykers most recently appeared at the Goodman in Galileo Galilei during the 2001/2002 Season. He most recently appeared at Court Theatre in Philip Glass’ In the Penal Colony and has performed frequently with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, appearing in Tannhäuser, The Rise and Fall of Mahagonny, Peter Grimes, The Ghosts of Versailles, The Makropoulos Case and The Gambler. Other opera and performance credits include London’s Royal Opera at Covent Garden, Frankfurt Opera, Netherlands Opera, the Grand Theatre de Geneve, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera and New York City Opera, Seattle Opera, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Edinburgh Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen Music Festival, the National Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Television credits include PBS Great Performances in John Adams’ opera Nixon in China (Emmy Award). Recording credits include Nixon in China (Grammy Award) and Lou Harrison’s opera Rapunzel. Duykers is on the faculty of California Institute of the Arts, where he is developing an opera/theater training program for singers.
