Artist Bio
Jane Powell
(Bio as of June 2003)
Jane Powell most recently appeared at the Goodman in Bounce during the 2002/2003 Season. She has starred in more than 20 major MGM musicals, including, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Royal Wedding. On Broadway, she starred in Irene and on tour headlined in such productions as South Pacific, Mr Fair Lady, Peter Pan, Sound of Music, Carousel. Brigadoon, The Boy Friend, Little Mary Sunshine, Oklahoma!, The Student Prince and I Do, 1 Do, She played the Good Queen in the New York City Opera production of Cinderella and performed in New York in the off-Broadway productions AfterPlay and most recently, in Avow. She received the Drama-Logue Award for the Los Angeles production of Same Time, Next Year. On television, she hosted the PBS series, The Musicals, for five years and was the young grandmother in the TV series Growing Pains. Daytime dramas include Loving, As the World Turns and One Life to Live. She was featured in Showtime’s Sandy Bottom Orchestra. Her autobiography, The Girl Next Door and How She Grew, was published by William Morrow and (in paperback) by Berkley.
