Artist Bio
James Leonard Joy

James Leonard Joy most recently collaborated at the Goodman on Purlie during the 2005/2006 Season. Mr. Joy’s work was last seen at Goodman in Play On! Mr. Joy is a New York-based scenic designer who has worked extensively in the theater over the past 25 years. In New York, his credits include Take Me Along, Peter Pan, State Fair and Play On! on Broadway; Juba, Blue and Camping With Henry and Tom off-Broadway. His work has appeared at such theaters as the New York City Opera, the Kennedy Center, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Guthrie Theater, the Old Globe Theatre, the Huntington Theatre, the Arena Stage, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse, the Alliance Theatre and the Goodspeed Opera House, among others, Mr. Joy is also well represented in the world of corporate theater, having designed many shows and meetings for such clients as McDonald’s, Toyota, General Motors, General Electric, Unisys, Accenture, Busch Gardens Entertainment and Walt Disney World Entertainment. Mr. Joy lives in Manhattan with his wife, Ruth Long Joy, who works as a partner in his studio.
