Artist Bio
Jacques C. Smith
(Bio as of September 2005)
Jacques C. Smith most recently appeared at the Goodman in Purlie during the 2005/2006 Season. Broadway credits include Rent. Regional credits include Purlie and Blue (with Phylicia Rashad and Diahann Carroll) at Pasadena Playhouse; Antigone at South Coast Repertory; Before It Hits Home at San Diego Repertory; Blue (with Leslie Uggams) at Paper Mill Playhouse; The Green Bird (with Julie Taymor) and The School for Wives at La Jolla Playhouse; The Meeting at Illinois Theater Center, and various productions at Coconut Grove Playhouse and Arizona Theatre Company, among others. Television credits include HBO’s Oz for two seasons, CSI: Miami, ER, PBS’s Emmy-winning American Masters program Ralph Ellison: An American Journey (portraying the title character of Ellison’s novel Invisible Man), The Division and Law & Order. He is also a charter member of Broadway Inspirational Voices. Mr. Smith received a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.F.A. from University of California at San Diego.
