Artist Bio
Gail Grate
(Bio as of March 2004)
Gail Grate most recently appeared at the Goodman in Crowns during the 2003/2004 Season. She is an Obie Award-winning actress. Ms. Grate’s Broadway credits include The Kentucky Cycle starring Stacy Keach and A Month in the Country starring Helen Mirren, F. Murray Abraham and Ron Rifkin. Her off-Broadway work includes The America Play (Obie award); In The Blood by Suzan-Lori Parks and The Merchant of Venice at New York’s Public Theater. Regionally, Ms. Grate has been seen at Arena Stage as an artistic associate in roles including Dr. Judith B. Kaufman in Wendy Wasserstein’s An American Daughter, Klytaimestra in Agamemnon and His Daughters, Ida B. Wells in Constant Star, Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion and Grusha in The Caucasian Chalk Circle, among many others. She has also appeared at the Kennedy Center in the acclaimed Woolly Mammoth Theater production of In the Blood by Suzan-Lori Parks, at the Shakespeare Theatre as the title role in Saint Joan, at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre in Betrayal, at the Mark Taper Forum in Mules (Dramalogue Award), at the Guthrie, La Jolla Playhouse, A.R.T., Yale Repertory and the Long Wharf Theatre, among others. She has participated in Arts Grant Panels including NEA, TCG/PEW Charitable Trusts and AT&T Onstage. Ms. Grate is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University.
