Felix E. Cochren designed By The Music of the Spheres, The Gift Horse, The Amen Corner, A Raisin in the Sun and Blues for an Alabama Sky for the Goodman. He includes among his Broadway credits the premiere productions of the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Soldiers Play with the Negro Ensemble Company, and the comedy Home, plus productions of Inacent Black and the musical version of The Amen Corner. Other New York credits include productions for the New Federal Theatre, Opera Ebony, Billie Holiday Theater, the Village Gate, Boys Choir of Harlem and the Joseph Papp Public Theatre. Resident theater credits include designs for Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Studio Arena (Buffalo), Alliance Theatre, Philadelphia Drama Guild, Freedom Theatre, GeVa, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Cleveland Play House, St. Louis Black Repertory Company, Huntington Theatre, Crossroads Theatre, Hartford Stage, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Indiana Repertory Theatre, American Music Theater Festival and Syracuse Stage. He was also the assistant art director on the Cosby Mysteries series for NBC-TV, and his work has been seen at theaters and exhibitions in Japan, Ireland, Poland and the Czech Republic. Mr. Cochren has been honored with seven Audelco Awards for his New York City stage designs and a shared Obie Award for Black Nativity; received the Detroit Free Press Award for sustained excellence in his craft; and received both a Jefferson Award nomination and two Black Theatre Alliance Award nominations for two Goodman productions. He was a featured artist in the Onstage: A Century of African American Stage Design exhibition at Lincoln Center in New York, and was honored with a solo exhibition of his theater art at the Skylight Gallery in Brooklyn and debuted as set and costume designer for Porgy and Bess for the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Indianapolis Opera. Currently, he is assistant professor of stage design at Syracuse University Department of Drama.
