Artist Bio
Eric Rosen
(Bio as of October 2003)
Eric Rosen most recently collaborated with the Goodman on The Edward Albee Festival during the 2003/2004 Season. He is co-founder and was Artistic Director of About Face Theatre. He returns to the Owen stage where he recently collaborated on Up Until Now, the fifth anniversary production of About Face Youth Theatre. Recently, he staged productions of Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses in Australia and in an ongoing regional theater tour originating at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. Original projects include Undone, Whitman, Dancer from the Dance (based on Andrew Holleran’s novel), Dream Boy (based on Jim Grimsley’s novel; Jeff Citations and After Dark Awards, best production and director; also produced in San Francisco, Atlanta, Chapel Hill, and Houston) and The Gift, all at About Face; the musicals Winesburg, Ohio and Words On Fire at Steppenwolf Theatre, both transferred to Theatre on the Lake; and the concept and direction for Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia (Barrymore Nominations, best director, best musical). Other directing credits include the world premiere of Theater District (About Face/Steppenwolf, Jeff Nomination, best new play), Bash (After Dark Award, outstanding production), the U.S. premiere of Four, and In The Heart Of America at AFT, and Fascination at AFT and at the O’Neill Playwrights Conference. He collaborated on the development of the Broadway-bound world premiere of I Am My Own Wife with Doug Wright and Moisés Kaufman and on Mary Zimmerman’s Eleven Rooms of Proust at AFT. Mr. Rosen has taught at the University of North Carolina, his alma mater, and at Northwestern University, from which he holds a doctorate in performance studies. He is currently a fellow in the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Directors.
