Dawn “Sam” Alden
(Bio as of February 2003)
Dawn “Sam” Alden most recently appeared at the Goodman in By the Music of the Spheres during the 2002/2003 Season. She was seen in About Face’s XenaLive 2: Xena Lives! – The Musical. She has been performing on Chicago stages for 10 years; favorite roles include the title character in Anouilh’s version of Antigone, Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew, Herodias in Salome, Buckingham in Richard III and various roles in Warrior Queens, all with Footsteps Theatre; the Police Trainer in Police Deaf Near Far at Stage Left; and productions with About Face, Circle and Yugen Theaters. Ms. Alden is also a fight choreographer and was named the first female resident fight choreographer in the Midwest with Footsteps Theatre. She is perhaps best known for being the founder, producer, director and a performer in Babes With Blades, Chicago’s all-female stage combat extravaganza. Ms. Alden is also a member of the International Order of the Sword and Pen and a contributor of articles to various magazines on the neglected martial history of women.
