Artist Bio
Daniel Pelzig
(Bio as of September 2010)
Daniel Pelzig most recently collaborated with the Goodman on Candide during the 2010/2011 Season. Mr. Pelzig’s other Goodman credits incldue Pericles during the 2005/2006 Season. His Chicago credits include The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, Regina and The Cunning Little Vixen at Lyric Opera of Chicago; Akhnaten and Death in Venice at Chicago Opera Theater; and History Loves Company at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire. On Broadway he has choreographed 33 Variations, starring Jane Fonda, and the musical A Year with Frog and Toad. His off-Broadway credits include Valhalla at New York Theatre Workshop, The New Moon for New York City Center Encores!, Newyorkers and Regrets Only at Manhattan Theatre Club and Privates on Parade at Roundabout Theatre Company. His regional credits include Sweeney Todd for the Kennedy Center Sondheim Celebration; Into the Woods at Kansas City Repertory Theatre; As You Like It, The Dog in the Manger, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Don Juan and Pericles at Shakespeare Theatre Company; War Music at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco; The Woman Warrior at Ahmanson Theatre; A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Seattle Repertory Theatre; My Fair Lady at Alliance Theatre; Guys and Dolls at Long Wharf Theatre; Ragtime at Pioneer Theater; Showboat and Carousel at the Hollywood Bowl; and The Mikado, Company, HMS Pinafore, Iolanthe and A Christmas Carol at Huntington Theatre Company. His opera credits include Armida, La Sonnambula, Lucia di Lammermoor and Iphigenie en Tauride at The Metropolitan Opera and numerous operas at Santa Fe Opera, Seattle Opera, Houston Grand Opera and Los Angeles Opera. His numerous directing credits include The Bartered Bride for Opera Boston; Stephen Wadsworth’s production of Iphigénie en Tauride for the Palau des Arts in Valencia, Spain; Mary Zimmerman’s production of Philip Glass’s Akhnaten for Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, France; Countess Maritza at Santa Fe Opera; Turandot at Fort Worth Opera and Guys and Dolls at Maltz Jupiter Theatre. His upcoming projects include The Winter’s Tale at Guthrie Theater, My Fair Lady at Shaw Festival and directing a new production of Carmen at Central City Opera. He has been a segment director for One Life to Live (ABC). He served for four years as resident choreographer for Boston Ballet and earned his degree in cellular biology from Columbia University.
