Bonnie Metzgar

Bonnie Metzgar is a playwright, director, dramaturg and producer. As artistic director of About Face Theatre from 2008 to 2013, Ms. Metzgar directed The Pride by Alexi Kaye Campbell, The Homosexuals by Philip Dawkins, Pony by Sylvan Oswald, Stupid Kids by John C. Russell and The Young Ladies Of by Taylor Mac. She served as the Carl Djerassi Fellow in Playwriting at the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 2013 to 2014. Her play You Lost Me was a 2014 Finalist for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Festival, and was selected for the 2014 Great Plains Theater Conference in Omaha. Currently, Ms. Metzgar has an NEA commission to write a new piece on transgender Civil War soldier Albert Cashier with composer Tamara Roberts for About Face Theatre. Recent directing credits include Let Me Down Easy by Anna Deavere Smith at American Theater Company and the upcoming Walk Across America for Mother Earth by Taylor Mac for Red Tape Theatre as part of the 2015 Garage Rep at Steppenwolf Theatre Company. She serves on the National Advisory Committee for Howlround at Arts Emerson. In addition to being on the rotating faculty of Hollins University’s MFA playwriting program, Ms. Metzgar has taught at Brown University, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin, Yale University, University of Colorado, Denver and currently at DePaul University.  She received her MFA in Playwriting from the University of Iowa and her BA cum laude from Brown University.
