Alliance Theatre
(Bio as of March 2004)
As the premier theater of the Southeast, the Alliance Theatre sets the highest artistic standards, creating the powerful experience of shared theater for diverse people. Now in its fourth decade, the Alliance has been reinvigorated under the new leadership of Artistic Director Susan V. Booth and Managing Director Thomas Pechar. It has achieved recognition as one of the country’s leading theaters, having premiered such works as Pearl Cleage’s Blues for an Alabama Sky, Elton John and Tim Rice’s Elaborate Lives: The Legend of Aida (in partnership with Disney Theatricals), Sandra Deer’s So Long on Lonely Street and Alfred Uhry’s The Last Night of Ballyhoo. Joining the list are this season’s The Subject Tonight is Love, A Death in the House Next Door to Kathleen Turner’s House on Long Island and Leap. The theater produces professionally staged work for both adult and children’s audiences and offers innovative education and community outreach programs.
