About Face Theatre
(Bio as of January 2005)
About Face Theatre is one of the nation’s leading centers for new work concerning issues of gender and sexual identity, and is one of Chicago’s most celebrated young theaters. The company has developed and premiered nearly 30 plays since 1995; recent successes include I Am My Own Wife (which went on to win the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for best play), Moisés Kaufman’s adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ One Arm (premiered in partnership with Steppenwolf Theatre and Tectonic Theater Project this December), and Winesburg, Ohio, Pulp and Theater District (all nominated for or recipients of Jeff Awards for Best New Work, 2002 and 2003). About Face is also home to the nationally recognized About Face Youth Theatre, one of the most respected youth arts programs dedicated to the empowerment of LGBT youth and their straight allies, which produced the recent premieres of On the Record and Up Until Now at the Goodman. Upcoming projects include the Chicago premiere of Take Me Out at the Steppenwolf Upstairs this spring.
