Calling Emerging Chicago Theatremakers!
The first IDEAA event of the year is here—“Inside The Color Purple: A Walkthrough Experience for Emerging Global Majority Theatremakers”!
Following last year’s successful series, the 2024-2025 Goodman Directing Fellows, Raquel Torre (Maggio Directing Fellow) and Tor Campbell (Northwestern Directing Fellow), are kicking off this year’s programming with a free behind-the-scenes experience designed for Global Majority directors, producers, and theatre professionals looking to deepen their craft and expand their networks.
On Friday, June 20th, participants will explore backstage spaces at Goodman Theatre, gaining a first-hand look at the production process. This immersive experience includes conversations with industry leaders at key stages of theatre-making:
- Malkia Stampley, BOLD Artistic Producer & Director, will discuss the role of producers and the early stages of getting a play on its feet.
- Brianna Fahey, Production Manager & Head of Stage Management, will share how technical elements come together and how rehearsals are coordinated.
- Lili-Anne Brown, director of Goodman Theatre’s upcoming production of The Color Purple, will offer insights into the directing process while in the midst of rehearsals herself.
Following these sessions, participants will enjoy dinner and attend an invited dress rehearsal of The Color Purple, experiencing the production up close before its official opening.
Reservations are required. This is a free, invitation-based gathering designed specifically for Global Majority (POC) theatremakers working in Chicago. To ensure we can maintain an intimate experience and accommodate everyone comfortably, location details will only be shared with confirmed attendees. If you’re interested in joining us, please fill out the brief RSVP form to be considered for an invite.
