Arts criticism is common around the world but what is it for exactly? To make finer distinctions of an actor's performance or the intricacies of scenic elements? To contextualize a literary text or film/television script? Or can it serve as a way of interrogating who we are as a society?

Goodman’s reimagined Cindy Bandle Cultural Critics program (CBCC) believes that arts commentary—like art itself—should reflect the times in which we live, and it is designed to strengthen participants’ critical voices as multifaceted thinkers and writers working across multiple platforms.

This 12-week program prepares students to create arts critique using Goodman mainstage theatrical productions to explore who we are and who we want to be. After honing their critical voices with weekly discussion, readings, and writing assignments, students will then expand on those ideas for different audiences by learning to shoot short videos, produce audio stories for podcasts, and write for social media sites.
