InterGens is a FREE online program which brings high school students, recent graduates, working artists and lifelong learners together to create original, ensemble-driven theatre that considers the perspectives of all ages.

This devising process begins with up to four weeks of story sharing, skill building and experimentation as an ensemble. Between gatherings, participants also read and watch plays, performance art, and other media selected around a unifying theme.

In the final weeks, the ensemble prepares for their culminating performance by curating their existing work and generating new scenes using a variety of approaches, including improvisation, movement, clowning, personal writing, and theatre games.

Program Dates

The fall 2021 session of InterGens began on Saturday, October 9 and will culminate with a final, virtual performance on Saturday, November 20.

Classes take place on Saturdays from 10:00am to 12:30pm CT over Zoom.

InterGens: In Community

InterGens: In Community is a new, neighborhood-specific branch of Goodman Theatre’s existing multi-generational programming. Like previous iterations of InterGens, this program connects artists of all ages to create original theatrical work. Unlike past programming, InterGens: In Community is designed to bring together individuals living in specific Chicago neighborhoods to reflect on and celebrate their community through storytelling, performance, and play.

The Goodman will host the first session of InterGens: In Community in Rogers Park, beginning with a series of introductory workshops at Willye B. White Park (1610 W Howard St). The next workshop will take place on October 30 from 2:30pm to 4:00pm.

Please Note: In accordance with Be Safe Chicago Guidelines for Parks and Recreation Activities, participants in this activity will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times while participating. Individuals who are feeling sick and/or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to stay home.
