Niyol Spencer (Mississippi Chata/Diné) is the lead singer for Oka Homma a Chicago-based Drum group who perform intertribal songs of the Southern Plains. Oka Homma formed in 202to contribute to a resurgence of arts engagement needed to mobilize and build community, and re/introduce cultural practice among youth and young adults in Chicago’s Native American communitySince 2012, Niyol has performed at various venues and institutions throughout Chicago and IllinoisMost recently, Niyol offered songs at the opening of the Native Truths exhibit at the Field MuseumThrough song, Niyol shares a small taste of southern plains culture with the Midwest populace
