New Work

Support the Future of American Theater

New Work is vital to the continued advancement of American theater. By commissioning, nurturing and producing new plays, the Goodman keeps theater fresh, opens our minds to new perspectives and uses the stage to examine the human condition.

The Goodman's program of new play development, including the annual New Stages Series, commissions, the Playwrights Unit and production of world premieres, addresses the ongoing need to continually rejuvenate American theater through the introduction of new work from emerging and established playwrights. In the past 10 years, the Goodman has produced more than 30 new plays, many of which have moved on to Broadway or London, garnering critical acclaim and awards. An excellent example of this record of achievement is Ruined by Lynn Nottage, which was commissioned by the Goodman in 2005, premiered on our Owen stage and received the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Your gift to New Work enables the Goodman to ensure future American classics can be brought to life on the Goodman's stages.
