The 1986 production of Fences established Goodman Theatre's life-long relationship with playwright August Wilson. With the 2007 production of Radio Golf, the Goodman will become the first American theater to produce Wilson's entire 10-play cycle chronicling the 20th century African American experience. Celebrate with the Goodman as it remembers August Wilson with productions, panel discussions and special programs that give insight into the life of this legendary playwright.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Congo Square Theatre Company presents the second play in Wilson's cycle. Set in Pittsburgh in the 1910s, Joe Turner's Come and Gone follows Herald Loomis as he searches for his missing wife. On his way, he finds himself.

Panel Discussion
Monday, February 5 | 7pm

Veteran performers of August Wilson's plays gather to discuss what it was like to work with the playwright and share wisdom on interpreting his scripts. Congo Square Theatre Company Artistic Director Derrick Sanders moderates a panel discussion featuring artists known for their work on the plays of August Wilson. The panel features L. Scott Caldwell (The Dreams of Sarah Breedlove) and three actors currently on stage in Radio Golf, Anthony Chisholm, John Earl Jelks and Michole Briana White. Produced in collaboration with Congo Square Theatre Company.

Individuals who were close to August Wilson offer perspective on his development as a playwright from his beginnings as a poet.

Fences
A Reading
Monday, February 19 | 7pm

Veteran Wilson interpreters come together for a staged reading of Fences, Wilson's first work to appear at the Goodman in 1986. Actors include Goodman Artistic Associate Regina Taylor, original Fences cast member Frankie R. Faison, Javon Johnson who is currently on stage in Joe Turner's Come and Gone and Radio Golf cast members Hassan El-Amin, Anthony Chisholm and John Earl Jelks.
