In Rehearsal with the Iceman

In Rehearsal with the Iceman

The Iceman Cometh is now on stage at the Goodman, and Eugene O’Neill’s unforgettable cast of characters are brought to life in a series of indelible performances that light up the Albert stage six times a week. But like every show, this remount of The Iceman Cometh was many months (actually, in this case, years) in the making, a process that began with an unexpected email exchange between Robert Falls and Nathan Lane several years ago, continued with design meetings all last winter, and concluded with five intense weeks of rehearsal  this spring. (And that’s all before the cast and crew moved into the theater for technical rehearsals and previews.)

We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to capture a tiny bit of rehearsal and turn our footage into a behind-the-scenes video of the making of The Iceman Cometh. This video includes about the only rehearsal footage you’ll ever see of this production, plus exclusive interviews with members of the cast and director Robert Falls. If you haven’t yet seen Iceman it will hopefully serve as a helpful introduction to O’Neill’s masterful play; if you have experienced the play, take this chance to better know some of the people who brought the work to life at the Goodman.

This is one of the best plays I have ever seen at the Goodman! Along with others, my husband and I were quick to jump to our feet for a standing ovation! Sometimes I may nod off at some of the plays but despite the exceptional length of this play I was riveted in my seat. The actors all gave wonderful performances but it was really a tour de force for Nathan Lane. A truly wonderful experience!!
