Sex.

That’s what I expected, sitting down in the Goodman’s beautiful Albert theatre, preparing to see David Ives’ recent exploit, Venus in Fur. With this bias in mind, I found Venus in Fur is an excellent comedy, with strikingly real characters and subtly elegant plot twists.

Venus in Fur

Running for only 95 minutes, with a cast of only two characters, Goodman Theatre’sVenus in Fur keeps it short, and simple- but far from sweet. The lack of saccharinity by no means detracts from production. In fact, this absence allows room for  the play’s appealing provocative edge.

Imagine the sexiest woman you can, with the curves of Marilyn Monroe, the humor of Tina Fey and the sexual energy of a pubescent teenage boy. This is Vanda (played by Amanda Drinkall) in the new play being performed at the Goodman Theatre.
