Leslie Uggams

Leslie Uggams most recently appeared at the Goodman in King Hedley II during the 2000/2001 Season. She has been seen as Maria Callas in the TheatreFest production of Master Class, in Play On! at Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick and in the off­-Broadway production of The Old Settler, for which she received an Audel­co Award. In addition to Broadway productions of Her First Roman, Jerry’s Girls and Blues in the Night, Ms. Uggams’ toured with Peter Nero and Mel Torme in The Great Gershwin Concert and starred as Reno Sweeney in the national company of Lincoln Center’s production of Anything Goes and later at Lincoln Center’s Vivien Beaumont Theatre on Broadway. Also on Broad­way, she appeared in and won a Tony Award for her performance in Hal­lelujah, Baby! Her television credits include the role of Kizzy in the dramatic show Roots (Critics Choice Award for best supporting actress, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations), Backstairs at the White House, Sizzle, the HBO special Christmas at Radio City Music Hall, co-host of Fantasy (Emmy Award) and the musical variety series The Leslie Uggams Show. Ms. Uggams made her film debut in the movie Skyjacked. In addition to her stage and television performances, Ms, Uggams performs concerts around the country, most recently appearing with the Palm Beach Pops, the Washington Symphony Orchestra and the Memorial Day Concert on the Washington Mall, which took place before 300,000 people and was televised live to millions more by PBS.
