GOODMAN THEATRE PRESENTS THE CROWD YOU'RE IN WITH, REBECCA GILMAN'S INTIMATE LOOK AT THE MODERN FAMILY

***WENDY C. GOLDBERG MAKES HER GOODMAN DEBUT DIRECTING THE CHICAGO PREMIERE***

(Chicago, IL - March 19, 2009) Goodman Theatre is proud to present the Chicago premiere of The Crowd You're In With by Rebecca Gilman. "A delightfully funny and thought-provoking new play" (San Francisco Chronicle), The Crowd You're In With is directed by Wendy C. Goldberg, artistic director of the National Playwrights Conference at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and runs May 23 - June 21, 2009 in the Owen Bruner Theatre. Tickets are $10 - $39. The Sara Lee Foundation is the Owen Season Corporate Sponsor.

Rebecca Gilman's fresh and moving new play takes an intimate look at modern families, friendships and the ins and outs of love allowing even the happiest couples to question the meaning in their lives.

About the Playwright and Director

Rebecca Gilman is a regular fixture at the Goodman with her productions of Dollhouse, Spinning Into Butter, Boy Gets Girl and Blue Surge all making their world premiere on the Goodman stage. Her other works include The American in Me, The Glory of Living (for which she was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2001), The Crime of the Century, The Sweetest Swing in Baseball, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, The Boys Are Coming Home and Lord Butterscotch and the Curse of the Darkwater Phantom. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Prince Prize for Commissioning New Work, the Roger L. Steven Award from the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright, and the George Devine Award. Gilman has been said to "write plays with such intriguing plots that the audience finds itself hungry for what is going to happen next…" (Chicago Tribune).

Wendy C. Goldberg is in her fourth season as Artistic Director of the National Playwrights Conference at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, where she directed The Crowd You're In With. Other recent directing credits include the world premiere of Deathbed, Doubt (co-production with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Actors Theater of Louisville), Third and The Sweetest Swing in Baseball. For five seasons, Goldberg served as Artistic Associate at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., where she conceived and led "Downstairs in the Old Vat Room," an artistic initiative dedicated to the development of new American plays.
