THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL EXTENDS THROUGH APRIL 13
***Added shows are final chance to see Lois Smith's acclaimed performance***
(Chicago, IL - March 19, 2008) Due to the extraordinary demand for tickets, Goodman Theatre will extend Harris Yulin's revival of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful through Sunday, April 13, 2008. The Trip to Bountiful is the final offering of Goodman Theatre's Horton Foote Festival and stars recent Theatre Hall of Fame inductee Lois Smith in "the most achingly beautiful performance of her long and distinguished career" (Chicago Sun-Times). Allstate is the exclusive corporate sponsor of The Trip to Bountiful.
The Trip to Bountiful opened to overwhelming critical and popular acclaim. "I won't ever see it done better" (Chicago Tribune); "Five stars…Yulin's production makes Bountiful a timeless tale of romanticized history" (Time Out Chicago); "The breathtaking, heart-wrenching production of "The Trip to Bountiful is as profound, poignant and powerful an American classic as I've ever seen" (Southtown Star); "That Goodman Theatre's lovely production…succeeds as well as it does speaks to Harris Yulin's delicate, detailed, unhurried direction; a top-flight creative team and finely etched performances from the accomplished cast..." (Daily Herald).
Set in the late 1940s, The Trip to Bountiful focuses on Mrs. Carrie Watts (Smith), a widow who is suffocatingly unhappy living in a Houston apartment with her grown son Ludie (Devon Abner) and his overbearing wife Jessie Mae (Hallie Foote). Carrie dreams of returning to the tiny town of Bountiful, Texas-where she grew up, and which she left three decades earlier. Undaunted by her family and determined to make a final grand adventure, Carrie sets out on the journey to rediscover her past, seeking solace in the place she once called home.
