Student Subscription Series
Celebrating its 21st year
The oldest component of the Goodman's education and community programming, the Student Subscription Series has served as a national model for arts education since its inception. Offered free to partner schools, the Student Subscription Series has provided the foundation for lifelong appreciation of theater to thousands of Chicago public high school students.
The program is about much more than just seeing a play. Working with teachers throughout the year to design specific lesson plans and focused classroom integration, the Student Subscription Series not only gives students a rich theater-going experience, but also aids in the development of critical thinking and communication skills, and sparks curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Student Subscription Series schools receive:
- Tickets to selected productions
- Post-show discussions with cast members
- Intensive classroom curriculum materials, including scripts, study guides, and interactive online educational resources
- Actor visits to classrooms to answer questions and discuss the themes of the plays
- Free tickets to series shows for teachers and administrators as preparation to work with the students
- Free tickets to series shows for parents of participating students
- Workshops featuring actors, designers, directors and Goodman staff members to assist teachers with curriculum development and classroom arts integration.
Admission to the Student Subscription Series is by written application from interested teachers and requires documented support from each school's administration. All schools applying for the program are evaluated by the EACP staff to ensure the successful fulfillment of program requirements, and to better understand the environments in which Series teachers and students function.
