Engaging Audiences Beyond the Stage

In the book commemorating his first 20 years here at the Goodman, Bob Falls said this about his work. "I strive for that larger theatrical consciousness - plays that challenge our ideas about who we are and how we got here." It is this sentiment, this commitment to a detailed exploration of the human condition, which is the essence of the theatrical experience. It is what allows both the actors and the audience insight into other cultures, other eras, and others realities both similar and distinct from their own. It is this inherent quality that makes theater a unique tool for learning. The simple mission of the Goodman - to create extraordinary productions that challenge, entertain, and stimulate the audiences' imagination - is not just evident in the work on our stages. This trust, built on the ideas of quality, diversity and community, becomes most apparent when we look at our community and education programs.

From the Student Subscription Series, our oldest educational initiative, to the new Young Critics Circle and our community CONTEXT series, Education and Community Programs offers exciting opportunities for our audiences to engage in the exploration of our unique cultures and our shared humanity.
