Michael Wilson

Michael Wilson most recently collaborated with the Goodman on Floyd and Clea Under the Western Sky during the 2004/2005 Season. On Broadway, Mr. Wilson received an Outer Critics Cricle nomination for his direction of Matthew Barber’s Tony-nominated Enchanted April. Off-Broadway, he staged the premieres of Horton Foote’s The Carpetbagger’s Children at Lincoln Center Theater and The Day Emily Married at Primary Stages, Chris Shinn’s What Didn’t Happen at Playwrights Horizons, Jane Anderson’s Defying Gravity at Laura Pels Theatre, Eve Ensler’s Necessary Targets at Variety Arts, and Tennessee Williams’ The Red Devil Battery Sign at WPA. Now in his seventh season as artistic director of Hartford Stage, Mr. Wilson has directed 16 productions there, including David Hare’s The Bay at Nice and Macbeth, as well as seven plays by Tennessee Williams. From 1990 to 1998, he was associate director of the Alley Theatre, where he directed Angels in America Parts I & II, which toured internationally to the 1995 Venice Biennale. Other resident work includes productions at the American Repertory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Guthrie Theater, Long Wharf Theatre and New York Stage and Film, among others. Awards include the Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award, Lincoln Center Theater; Princess Grace Foundation Statue Award; and the Edward Albee Foundation fellowship. Mr. Wilson was a Morehead scholar and recipient of the Elliot Norton Award. He received a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1987.
