Robert Thomson most recently collaborated with the Goodman on Hughie/Krapp’s Last Tape during the 2009/2010 Season, he also designed this show for Canada’s Stratford Shakespeare Festival in 2007. His extensive projects for Stratford include Caesar and Cleopatra and King Lear, both starring Christopher Plummer, as well as Zastrozzi, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Into the Woods, The Odyssey and next season’s Dangerous Liaisons, directed by Ethan McSweeny. Mr. Thomson served as Resident Lighting Designer for The National Ballet of Canada for 12 seasons, designing more than 25 ballets. He designed for Canada’s renowned Shaw Festival for 24 seasons with credits including 10 years as Head of Lighting Design, and productions of Picnic, St. Joan, Cavalcade and Cyrano de Bergerac. Additional credits include the Tony Award-nominated production of King Lear for Lincoln Center Theater; Desir and The Taming of the Shrew for American Ballet Theatre Company at the Metropolitan Opera House; Robert Lepage’s international award-winning Bluebeard’s Castle and Erwartung for Seattle Opera and Buried Child and Macbeth for Canada’s National Arts Centre. Mr. Thomson is a member of the Associated Designers of Canada.
