Josh Schmidt

Josh Schmidt’s Chicago credits include The March, Time Stands Still, Detroit and The Tempest (Jeff nomination) at Steppenwolf Theatre Company; A Street­car Named Desire and A Minister’s Wife (Jeff Award) at Writers’ Theatre, where he is an artistic associate; Odradek at The House Theatre of Chicago and Adding Machine (Jeff Award) at Next Theatre Company, among many others. On Broadway, his work has been seen in The House of Blue Leaves and Brighton Beach Memoirs. Off-Broadway credits include A Minister’s Wife and When the Rain Stops Falling at Lincoln Center Theater; Adding Machine at Minetta Lane Theatre and Whida Peru and Crime and Punishment at 59E59 Theaters, among others. Regionally, Mr. Schmidt has worked on more than 100 productions at venues including the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada; the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, where he is an associate artist; American Players Theatre in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and numerous others. Recordings of Adding Machine and A Minister’s Wife have both been released on PS Classics. Mr. Schmidt is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and has received one Lucille Lortel, two Outer Critics Circle and three Jeff awards. He is a National Endowment for the Arts/Theatre Com­munications Group fellow, a Sundance Institute Theatre Lab UCross alumni and a recent recipient of both an American Musical Theatre Voices Honorary Grant and a subsequent commission from Signature Theatre in Washington, DC.
