Shop Carpenter

REPORTS TO: Technical Director

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 3 years professional theatre experience required.
  • Extensive experience in woodworking, finish carpentry, metal working, stage rigging, and automation/motion control.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of theatrical procedures, scenic construction, tools and theatrical materials.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift, push or maneuver 50-70lbs, either alone or with assistance from others as well as climb ladders and work in high places.
  • Work as a team member, and maintain a positive attitude in times of stress.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Construct scenery as specified by drawings and in line with common theatrical practices
  • Work all load in, load out, and note sessions as specified by Technical Director
  • Uphold Goodman quality and construction standards
  • Help to maintain a safe and sanitary scene shop, loading dock, backstage area
  • Assist other departments as needed
  • Comply with safety practices and training at all times
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift
  • Ability to safely drive a 24' box truck

This position is full-time and is under the jurisdiction of the Goodman Theatre's collective bargaining agreement with I.A.T.S.E Local 2.

Assistant to the Director of Development

REPORTS TO: Director of Development

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Provide administrative support, maintain calendar and coordinate and prepare for meetings for the Director of Development, while also serving as a key liaison to the Board of Trustees along with the Director of Development
  • Manage all correspondence with Board of Trustees including customized solicitation letters and acknowledgment letters, maintaining the activity of each member, maintaining accurate and complete records in the Tessitura database regarding trustees and coordinating monthly email newsletters for trustees
  • Coordinate the Executive Committee, Nominating Committee and Board of Trustee meetings with the supervision of the Director of Development and in collaboration with the Executive office; as well as other key trustee committees
  • Facilitate scheduling and execution of all trustee-related projects, including subscriptions, perk fulfillment, gift certificates, etc.
  • Update and maintain the Trustee Resource Directory, which is the key reference for all trustees and staff
  • Coordinate the design and planning of trustee-related and special events throughout the year including the maintenance of invitation lists, working with caterers, room set up, writing speaker remarks and keeping up-to-date RSVPs lists
  • Assist with phones, faxing, filing, proofreading, mail and other responsibilities as assigned
  • Coordinate the design and printing of program specific material
  • Facilitate VIP ticket requests for Goodman performances as well as tickets to other commercial theaters
  • Proofread and manage the upload of development content on the Goodman Theatre website

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and communication skills; a high degree of initiative and energy with a high level of professionalism and integrity
  • Team player with ability to adapt to, and work well with, a variety of people
  • Expertise in multitasking while keeping superior attention to detail
  • Strong computer and database skills; experience with Windows programs, content management software and Tessitura (or other comparable communication and fundraising programs) a must
  • Professional, thorough, self-motivated and a positive attitude

Goodman Theatre seeks an experienced First Hand.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Draper with all phases of costume construction including cutting, sewing and fitting
  • Assisting the Draper with oversight of the costume shop construction staff
  • Assist with the maintenance and organization of costume shop spaces and equipment
  • Receive and disseminate instructions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2-3 years professional costume shop experience desirable
  • Must have strong stitching and precise cutting skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and yet able to prioritize tasks

This is a full-time position with a competitive hourly rate and full benefits package.

Behind the Scenes at the Goodman Theatre

The Goodman Theatre is now hiring theatre lovers with friendly voices to sell season tickets. Join our wonderfully diverse staff of actors, artists and retired professionals and help sell out the house!

We offer a reliable year-round P/T position! We are currently looking for people with Evening availabilities from 20 to 30 hours per week in a positive and upbeat atmosphere. Earn hourly plus commission, cash bonuses, free tickets and more! Candidates must be cheerful and engaging.
